Of these loans, 1,390 loans were refinanced through the Home Affordable Refinance Program (HARP) during the quarter. It also indicated that the refinances done through HARP which ended in December 2018 would gradually taper off in 2019. In fact, at the end of the fourth quarter, HARP refinances represented just 1 percent of the total refinance volume at the GSEs. Borrowers completed 1,390 refinances through HARP bringing the total refinances through this program to 3.4 million from its inception.Looking at the year-to-date impact of the program, the report found that borrowers with loan-to-value (LTV) ratios that were greater than 105 percent accounted for 16 percent of the volume of HARP loans and that 33 percent of HARP refinances for underwater borrowers were for 15- to 20-year mortgages that are known to build equity faster than the traditional 30-year fixed-rate mortgage. Breaking it down by state, the report indicated that more people opted for HARP in Florida and Illinois where it represented 2 percent of the total refinance volume compared with the national average of 1 percent. In December, 9 percent of HARP loans had an LTV that was greater than 125 percent. The report also found that borrowers who refinanced through HARP had a lower delinquency rate compared to borrowers eligible for HARP who did not refinance through the program. As of June 2018, “nine states and one territory accounted for 70 percent of the nation’s HARP-eligible loans with a refinance incentive.”From April 2009 through December 2018, 2,918,957 loans refinanced through HARP were for primary residences, 110,887 were for second homes and 464,551 were for investment properties, the report indicated. Bravo happy with role in Red Force title win PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC): West Indies middle order batsman Darren Bravo says he is pleased with the role he played that inspired Trinidad and Tobago Red Force to retain their NAGICO Super50 title on Saturday. Bravo missed his century on three occasions, but his prolific batting propelled Red Force into the finals where they dominated Barbados Pride with a one-sided 72 run win to remain champions. “It’s a good feeling. Obviously, when you contribute to a winning cause, it’s always a good feeling. And I’m always happy about that,” said Bravo, who returned to Red Force’s lineup towards the end of the competition after the West Indies tour of Australia. “It’s just a matter of continuing believing in myself. At the end of the day, I put in a lot of work so it’s always good to know that whenever you go out there, and you get that opportunity, it’s good to know that you’re reaping the rewards”. Coach hails Grenada’s new stadium ST GEORGE’S, Grenada (CMC): Former American track athlete and now Coach to Kirani James, Harvey Glance, has described Grenada’s new Chinese built athletic and football stadium as ‘mind blowing’. The US$40 million stadium, with a seating capacity of nearly 8,000, was declared open amid much pomp and pageantry in an official ceremony carried live on national television on Saturday. The new facility replaces the original athletics stadium which was destroyed when Hurricane Ivan ravaged the country in 2004. “This is my first time seeing the stadium in its full capacity not only crowd wise but also building wise because I came down to recruit Kirani when he was 16 and a half years old and the stadium had been hit by the hurricane,” said Glance. “So I am truly, truly impressed with what the Chinese people have done”. Glance attended the opening alongside James who was invited to perform the ceremonial lighting of the torch.last_img read more

Mendeley Launches $10,001 API Contest for Open Science Apps

first_imgGrowing Phone Scams: 5 Tips To Avoid Tags:#hack audrey watters The scientific and academic research tool Mendeley has announced a contest aimed at encouraging developers to build apps on top of Mendeley’s open database. That database includes over 70 million research papers, usage statistics, reader demographics, social tags and related research recommendations. The winning app will receive a grand prize of $10,001.Describing itself as a Last.fm of sorts for academic research, Mendeley isn’t simply a bibliographic management tool as it is able to glean information from aggregated data to help track trending research topics. Mendeley launched its API last year, and a number of apps have been created already, such as Twendeley, a Twitter-Mendeley mashup. Mendeley’s “API Binary Battle” now incentivizes developers to build even more.“The irony of the Internet is that scientists created it, yet it has been underutilized in strengthening the academic community online. A “Facebook for science data? has never been achieved,” says Mendeley Chief Scientist Dr. Jason Hoyt. “With tools like the Mendeley API platform, developers can bring academia back to the center of the Internet.” The judging panel includes O’Reilly Media’s CEO Tim O’Reilly and Amazon CTO Werner Vogels.
