Share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest I have started many a blog in the spring with the phrase “this is my favorite time of year”. It truly is. I love to see trees green up, flowers bloom and dust fly. With the periodic rains lately, only 2 of those things are happening as we approach mid-April. Farmers are waiting for Mother Nature to give them a dry window to get the ground just right for the 2017 planting season to begin. We all know how patient farmers are this time of year and by now the tractors are shined up and the planters are set up. So, how are they passing the time?I asked that very question on my Facebook page this week and found out from the pictures and comments from all over Ohio just what growers are doing, short of sitting on their hands, to keep their minds off of not being able to get into the fields. Thanks for all of the great responses. By the number of them I received it is easy to see that farmers have too much time of their hands! Hopefully fields will be fit soon and #plant17 can begin. When it does, please be safe and hopefully I will see you down the road.

Distributing was started by a farmer who wanted innovative products and loved tinkering, and that’s what the company still does 40 years later. In the late-1970s, Joe Whitney, a grain farmer, was the owner of Spencerville Implement — a John Deere and a short line dealership in Spencerville. As a farmer, Whitney always looked for innovative ways to improve his farm equipment, which led to the formation of S.I. Manufacturing in 1979. This new company manufactured tools that improved the current farm equipment. As a result of the Farm Crisis of the 1980s that brought high-interest rates, low crop prices, and more negative effects to the John Deere dealership, Whitney made the decision to close the dealership in 1986.Whitney kept S.I. Manufacturing going, continuing to add on new innovative products to sell. Shortly thereafter, S.I. Manufacturing became the first U.S. distributing partner for the Schumacher Company, selling their SCH EasyCut cutting system. These parts were originally manufactured in Germany for German-made equipment and S.I. Manufacturing was able to import the parts, adapt them to fit and work with farm equipment made in the US., and distribute them to numerous farmers here in the states. Today, the company is still Schumacher’s largest distributer in the U.S.In 1993, S.I. Manufacturing was incorporated and renamed S.I. Distributing, Inc. In 2004, Joe Whitney retired and offered to sell the company to two long-time employees: Todd Keysor, who had worked for Whitney since 1984 and Dave Burgei, who began working for Whitney in 1995.Their goal is to find unique, innovative products, something that will make the equipment better. Today, with a total of 26 employees, S.I. Distributing sells their products throughout the United States. When asked what was most fulfilling about working for the business, President and co-owner Dave Burgei stated that the company doesn’t just sell a product; they try to understand and identify the problem or roadblock/issue the farmer has, whether it’s in planting or harvesting, and then recommend what would improve his specific experience.
Solskjaer retains magic touch at Man United with another win But Leonard’s first game in San Antonio since being traded to Toronto along with Danny Green for DeMar DeRozan and Jakob Poeltl has more significance than just another regular season gamePopovich once deemed the franchise belonged to the 6-foot-7 MVP candidate with the impending departure of the Big Three — Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker. But Leonard’s unhappiness and request for a trade stunned the organization.FEATURED STORIESSPORTSPrivate companies step in to help SEA Games hostingSPORTSUrgent reply from Philippine football chiefSPORTSSEA Games: Biñan football stadium stands out in preparedness, completion“Give me some popcorn, I just want to watch it,” Spurs veteran LaMarcus Aldridge quipped Wednesday. “If I can just get some popcorn and watch it, I would, but I might have to play.”It’s easier to joke about the pending reunion because there was nothing funny about the breakup. Leonard sat out all but nine games last season with a right quadriceps injury that first flared up prior to training camp. The diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of the injury created unrepairable tension between Leonard and the Spurs.Neither side has offered any details on the saga — a stance that continues.“You move on in life,” Popovich said. “We’re not going to redo what’s happened in the past in any way shape or form. That’s of no consequence at this point and it does no good to go backwards and talk about this, that or the other.”Leonard still speaks like he plays for the Spurs even though he is no longer in San Antonio. Like Popovich, Leonard views Thursday’s matchup as another game and another chance to improve.“It’s going to be fun,” Leonard said. “Everybody’s anticipating the game. I don’t feel like it’s going to be an emotional game, but that’s right now.”Said Popovich: “A lot of people, because of the trade, will add fuel to it and try to make it this, that and the other, and that’s fine. Leonard is expected to be booed heavily during the game, but Popovich hopes that is not the case.“I don’t speak for other people, but I hope that we’ll treat everybody with kindness and respect,” Popovich said. “We always have in the past, so we’ll see.”Leonard spent his first seven seasons in the NBA with the Spurs after being acquired from Indiana in a draft-day trade. So, his departure is personal to many fans in San Antonio.“I hope they react just as well and the same that they do with any other ex-teammate that comes back,” Spurs guard Patty Mills said. “He’s been a great teammate, a great friend to me, he deserves that. Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is well aware of Gonzalo Higuain’s scoring prowess, but expressed fears over his fitness levelsAfter weeks of uncertainty, Higuain sealed a loan move to Chelsea from Juventus on Wednesday evening for the remainder of this season with the option of it becoming a permanent one this summer for £31m.Although Juventus have also confirmed that Chelsea can take up another loan option to extend Higuain’s deal until June 2020 for an additional £15.7m.The Argentine forward is a proven scorer with an impressive tally of 117 goals in 192 Serie A games for Napoli, Juventus and AC Milan.Higuain, arguably, had his greatest campaign under Chelsea coach Maurizio Sarri at Napoli during the 2015/16 season, where he scored a record 36 goals in 35 Serie A games. And the Italian will be hoping that Higuain can achieve similar feats at Stamford Bridge with Chelsea having notably struggled up front this season. But Hasselbaink reckons that the 31-year-old has a lot to prove in the Premier League, despite his past exploits.“We know that he knows where the back of the net is,” Hasselbaink told Sky Sports.“The only little worry that I have is he’s 31, how fit is he? Barcelona legend Carles Puyol is certain Lionel Messi remains as hungry as ever to win silverware for Argentina ahead of his comeback game. The 31-year-old forward’s Argentina future had been in doubt for nearly nine months following last summer’s World Cup last-16 exit to eventual winners France.Messi had since skipped the last four international breaks and refused to comment on his plans, despite the Argentine Football Association (AFA) repeatedly attempting to assure fans of his return. However, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is now back in the international fold and Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni is expected to name him as a starter for tonight’s friendly against Venezuela. And Puyol is delighted his former Barcelona team-mate decided to not call it a day on his international career.“The fact Messi’s returned to the national team is great news for Argentina and for football lovers. The more matches we see from Messi, the better, because it’s a delight to watch him play,” said Puyol, according to Sport.La Liga Betting: Match-day 4 Stuart Heath – September 14, 2019 Despite it being very early into La Liga season, both Barcelona and Real Madrid have had unprecedented starts to their campaigns. Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsApp Facebook Twitter Google+LinkedInPinterestWhatsAppKingston, Jamaica, December 24, 2016 – Finance and Public Service Minister, Hon. Audley Shaw, says the Government is seeking to maintain and build on the momentum resulting from the 2.2 per cent rate of economic growth recorded during the July to September quarter. In reiterating that this was the highest out-turn since 2007, Mr. Shaw said Jamaica’s macroeconomic environment was stabilizing, with the prospects for further growth being “excellent.” This, he contended, was the case, particularly for agriculture, in light of the 3,300 new hotel rooms coming on stream this year, adding that tourism “provides a vital linkage to agriculture.” He was speaking at a recent press conference at the Ministry’s National Heroes Circle offices in Kingston.Meanwhile, Mr. Shaw advised that the Jamaican dollar was regaining the confidence of key stakeholders. This, he said, was consequent on its stabilization resulting from inputs by a special working group which he established to address the currency’s depreciation, in consultation with the Bank of Jamaica (BoJ). The Minister further said that interest rates were falling, while the current account deficit had narrowed to a “relatively low” 1.8 per cent, down from double digits. He advised that Jamaica was meeting its benchmark targets under the new International Monetary Fund (IMF) US$1.64 billion precautionary Standby Agreement (SBA), and assured that the Administration would do everything necessary to generate sustainable economic growth.Meanwhile, Mr. Shaw is encouraging small and medium-size (SME) business owners seeking to access the Development Bank of Jamaica’s (DBJ) $2.4 billion loan facility, to ensure their operations are in good standing. He said despite a relaxation in the loan collateral requirement, SME stakeholders must ensure their operations are properly structured, in keeping with the governing stipulations. “All potential (beneficiaries) of these loans must understand that we expect a serious approach to doing business,” Mr. Shaw emphasized. The DBJ has relaxed its qualifying stipulations for the loan provision, by incorporating non-traditional collateral among the prerequisites. A Government policy decision has allowed the BoJ to reduce risks associated with loans issued by deposit-taking institutions that are guaranteed by the DBJ. In 2009, the Administration launched the Credit Enhancement Fund (CEF), as a pilot project, to increase access to credit for SMEs that lacked adequate collateral to secure loans. Recently, following recommendations from the Economic Growth Council (EGC), the BoJ reduced risk-weighting for DBJ-backed loans under the CEF.
