Sturridge could miss eight weeks

first_img “It was something we thought was never going to be as serious as that to be honest. “He slipped over in training and we thought initially it was his toe. He got brought inside straight away and he was taken for a scan straight away and it showed he’d actually got a ligament strain. “It’s a big blow for us because he’s been brilliant since he’s come in. “We’ve played a few systems this year, which has been brilliant, and it’s given me the flexibility to change it around. It’s about the players and we’ve got some good ones to come in. “It’s likewise with (Philippe) Coutinho who has had a high ankle sprain and hasn’t trained all week. He’s not 100 per cent but the players coming in are terrific. “Young Raheem Sterling has been excellent and he’s only 18. He’s an excellent talent and Victor Moses is a talented player so they’ll come in and they are hungry to do well.” The England forward, who suffered the injury during training on Friday, has scored 11 goals in all competitions for the Reds and has formed an excellent partnership with Luis Suarez in the Anfield attack. Reds manager Brendan Rodgers told Sky Sports before his team’s match at Hull: “Daniel is probably going to be out six to eight weeks. Liverpool have been dealt a major blow with the news that striker Daniel Sturridge could be sidelined for up to eight weeks with an ankle injury.center_img Press Associationlast_img read more
